Top Frequently Asked Questions

Does emClock support the mass notification goals expressed in the new Department of Education HEOA bill?

Yes. emClock provides an important option for immediate location specific messaging that supports the requirements of the new HEOA bill. The bill requires "multiple methods of communication within the campus community" and emClock provides an important visual notification component both inside and outside for complete coverage of your campus. emClock's automatic event logging exceeds the reporting requirements of the bill by providing a time stamped audit trail of all messaging activity in the system.

What exactly do I need to purchase to a twenty room elementary school with a front lobby, a principal's office, a gym, a cafeteria/auditorium and two very separate playgrounds?

A single emClock provides excellent coverage for most large rooms. Normally an emClock system would include one emClock for each classroom, one for the lobby, one for the main office and an outdoor emClock at the entrance from each of the two playground. All emClocks are visible from 100 feet so the coverage of a single emClock in an auditorium or cafeteria might be adequate. Due to the seating configurations in a cafeteria a second emClock is sometimes added. The total might be 24 Indoor and 2 Outdoor emClocks. emClocks can also be used in hallways or wherever wall clocks are normally installed. Each emClock comes with mounting brackets that can be used for a wall, shelf or ceiling mount. The cost of the emClock Control Panel software is based on a percentage of the hardware cost. This software should be installed and run on a designated computer that administrators or authorized security staff are allowed to use.

Do I need a Computer, and does it need to be fully dedicated to this use?

The emClock Control Panel Software runs on Windows 7 or better. The computer does not need to be dedicated for the emClock software to work. It is best if the computer remains on so that messaging and time management is available 24/7.

Can we call up a prerecorded emergency message with only one or two keystrokes - like a speed dial on the phone?

Yes, the "Saved Emergency Message" feature allows you to click on a saved message and then click on the "Send" button to activate the message. The first click will allow you to inspect the destination list for the message. A single event might require the activation of several messages to send location specific information to different areas on your campus. Each Saved Emergency Message requires just two clicks to activate. Ad hoc Emergency Messaging is also provided but this feature requires the operator to enter the message text before the message can be sent. In either case a time stamped log entry is automatically created listing the text and the number of devices that received the message.

If there are several schools, how would we initiate a message from the Central Office?

The emClock Control Panel Software supports remote emergency message activation and deactivation through an HTTP interface. This remote interface would need to be enabled at each of the schools. This software interface allows the emClock Control Panel software to connect to existing emergency management systems or to a custom head-end control application. Other Central Office control options include remote desktop access to the school computers operating the emClock Control Panel software.

Can emClocks be connected to an automatic SMS Messaging system?

Custom system extensions for the control of emergency messaging can be accommodated through the HTTP interface that can be enabled within the emClock Control Panel software. This interface will allow the integration of emClock Control Panels into an existing emergency management system, email system or the development of a custom head-end system.

In the case of power outage and where there was no stand alone generator, could the emClock system run off a battery backup?

Yes, emClocks are very energy efficient and since the indoor model operates on less than15 Watts it can run on the power from a standard Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system. The UPS systems can provide your networked emClocks with backup power for hours during a power outage.
